War on Pain: New Strategies in Pain Management for Military Personnel & Veterans

Author and Disclosure Information

Pain is a leading cause of disability, and acute and chronic pains afflict military personnel and veterans in proportions exceeding the general population. Characteristics of modern warfare produce serious, but survivable, injuries to bodily tissues and to the peripheral and central nervous systems that cause acute pain and, in many cases, lead to chronic pain. Providing a continuum of adequate pain management, from the time of injury through to recovery of function and quality of life, is crucial to the well-being of our warriors and veterans. Left untreated, pain can have life-long consequences.
This educational activity is designed to support the development of a continuum of effective pain care services to benefit both the active military and veteran populations by providing military and VA clinicians with the latest research and developments in pain management.
