Jose Antonio Moreno, MD, Imtiaz A. Munshi, MD, MBA, and Virgilio George, MD
Dr. Moreno is a surgery resident, Dr. Munshi is the chief of general surgery, and Dr. George is a colon and rectal surgeon, all in the department of surgery's division of general surgery at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center and at Indiana University School of Medicine, both in Indianapolis. In addition, Dr. George is a colon and rectal surgeon at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis, and Dr. Munshi is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
When two cirrhotic patients with intractable ascites presented with ruptured umbilical hernias, these surgeons sought to mitigate the increased risk of postoperative complications by incorporating the use of biological mesh into the open repair procedure.
