Preoperative Data On-Line Service

Orthocrat Ltd. has launched its OrthoWeb on-line service. OrthoWeb allows orthopedic surgeons from private clinics, who often have little or no access to existing hospital PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems), easy access to their patients’ files through its highly secure Internet service that stores preoperative data and images needed during surgery.

OrthoWeb will also include an automated system for surgeons to request and book operating rooms by simply e-mailing a patient’s file to a hospital, rather than undertaking the time-consuming process of faxing or mailing preoperative data and images.

OrthoWeb is an add-on service for surgeons, hospitals, and research centers currently using Orthocrat’s TraumaCad digital software, which provides tools to accurately measure and plan for implants needed in hip, knee, and trauma surgeries.

Spacer System

Globus Medical, Inc., has announced the introduction of its NIKO™ Corpectomy Spacer System. The manufacturer notes that the new system significantly reduces the time required for surgeons to perform multilevel corpectomies by offering an unprecedented array of intraoperative options.

The NIKO Corpectomy Spacer System incorporates 3 sagittal profiles within the implant system, each of which contain at least 9 preset heights. The resulting lordosis is contained in the endplate angles and within the shape of the implant itself, enabling surgeons to match the natural anatomy of the body. Globus stresses that this feature allows NIKO to be immediately implanted, compared with multi-step competitive systems, by eliminating the assembly time of stackable cages or the cutting required with mesh cages.

The manufacturer notes that NIKO’s simplicity saves intraoperative time, and the flexibility of preset options allows the surgeon to effectively treat the pathology. The system offers surgeons a straightforward alternative to mesh and stackable cages, while the elimination of intraoperative implant alterations saves valuable time in the operating room.
