The U.S. health care system saw 2 major pieces of legislation pass within a span of just over 1 year: the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, which was passed as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) in February 2009, and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), which was passed in March 2010.
