ABSTRACT

Earlier diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer has changed the face of late-stage disease, and the use of mainstay hormonal therapies—orchiectomy, luteinizing hormone releasing-hormone analogs, and combined androgen ablation—are evolving rapidly. New approaches such as antiandrogen monotherapy and intermittent therapy are being evaluated. In addition, palliative treatments for patients with androgen-independent tumors have expanded.
