Elevated Cardiac Troponins—Not Always an Acute Coronary Syndrome

An 85-year-old female with a history of coronary artery disease (CAD) presented to the Emergency Department (ED) with altered mental status. While she was admitted for sepsis and had positive blood cultures for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), the patient was also noted to have an elevated troponin level of 1.32 (higher than the local laboratory normal values).
